Summer lingers on with “warm” seas around the isle, growth is luxuriant with meadows of asters and goldenrod to greet you on the mainland, and an abundance of ferns and flowers on the island.
From Juanita Roushdy: Hog Island is Audubon’s “True North,” said David Yarnold, CEO of National Audubon, at the 75th anniversary celebration on August 20.
Egg Rock is off limits during the nesting season. However, during the fall session of Maine Seabird Biology and Conservation on September 11-16, you can land on Egg Rock and help restore the habitat for puffins, Atlantic Terns and Roseate Terns.
Don’t miss out on the celebrations FOHI has planned on August 20-21. Come for the weekend and the reunion or come for one day and the lobster clambake.
Kira remarked how amazed she was that so much could be done in four days! She remembered people saying that the Bingham Cottage was beyond repair and as she looked around, she felt it becoming a home once again.
From Juanita Roushdy: The task for the week was to restore the front deck to its original shape, repair the roof, and replace shingles, and clean out the interior of the cottage.
From Juanita Roushdy: FOHI is having a reunion and fundraiser to celebrate the Hog Island Audubon Camp’s 75th anniversary during the weekend of August 20-21. Meet old friends, share stories, learn about and discuss FOHI’s plans for the future, and enjoy good food.
From Juanita Roushdy: In less than 8 hours, Linda and her group raised more than $4,700 for the “Adopt a Muffin” Project for Janii’s stove from campers and FOHI volunteers.
From Julie Seifert: The first FOHI week was so successful that we decided to have another one, this time with more volunteers and even more projects on the To-Do board.
