Programs
Overview
Each summer, the Audubon Camp in Maine, on Hog Island, hosts educational programs focused on ornithology, ecology, and conservation. They feature world-class instructors and are available to for adults, teens and families.
Each program will expand your birding experience and knowledge — and if you’re not a birder, you’ll still find plenty to enjoy on this spectacular island retreat with quiet forests, hiking trails, tidepools to explore and delicious meals to savor. From the chugging of the first lobster boat in the morning, to the last loon call at night, Hog Island never disappoints.

Juanita Roushdy Scholarship
Starting in 2025, Friends of Hog Island will be offering an annual scholarship to cover 100% tuition for an indigenous person to attend a week at the Hog Island Audubon Camp. The first recipient was Lisa Carney Nanibush from Wasauksing First Nation, Ontario CA who attended Joy of Birding this June.
The scholarship was created in honor of FOHI’s founder and former president, Juanita Roushdy, who helped establish and run our beloved organization from 2011-2023. Now enjoying her retirement in Bremen, ME, Juanita is still an active member of the FOHI board of directors.
We are still accepting donations for the Juanita Roushdy Scholarship Fund to help provide Indigenous individuals with the opportunity to experience Hog Island and all of its natural beauty.
